Daksh 2018

“An investment in Knowledge always pays the best interest.”–Benjamin Franklin

As rightly said, this investment is seen with the initiative taken up by the Student Council on 7/12/18 between 9 AM to 5 PM and on 8/12/18 between 9 AM to 4 PM. Daksh is a student volunteered programme wherein each department would put up its own stalls. These stalls are further decorated highlighting their programmes and their fruitful outcomes. The visitors from schools, colleges and our very own CHRIST Junior College are encouraged to join CHRIST (Deemed to be University) by choosing their own choice-based programme by visiting their own stall of interest. Being a right helping hand to the Office of Admissions, it aims to attract students. This year an app called Accord was developed to keep a live track on the christites and Non-christites. Each student was given a band which consisted of a unique QR code which had be scanned at each stall they went in which gave the department a feedback and an admission regarding mail for them. The session on the first day was inaugurated by IPS Ravi, Commissioner of West Division, Bengaluru. To make it a commendable success, a huge student body was involved in the creation of seminars, talks etc.

The stall of Department of International Studies and History saw many visitors who were keen into knowing the programme. The day began with the stall being decorated with a banner highlighting the courses offered, posters highlighting the vision and mission, eligibility to apply, programme outcome, placement record, internships, prominent alumni, career opportunities and the theme based continuous internal assessments that would be given. The student representatives on both days left no stone unturned to explain each visitor about the two programmes that is History, economics and Political Science (HEP) and Economics, political Science and Sociology (EPS) offered by the department. The faculty had provided the student council members a training and when they visited our stall they were awestruck with the design and technical integrity our department stall had adored. Each and every student who aimed to do a under graduate degree visited our stall. The student council gave them an insight into the programme structure, career opportunities, courses offered. They were told that if they aim to choose a career path in political science, they could effectively apply for Political Scientist, Lawyer, Lobbyist, Public relations specialist, Teacher etc and those who did in History could avail Media - Print and Visual, Civil Services – IAS, IFS, IRS, IPS, Corporate Sector – Human Resources (HR), Administration, Hospitality – Tourism , Heritage worker etc. Further samples of Dissertation copies, Internship reports, Articulations, Faculty publications were showcased for them so that they could get a deeper understanding of the impactful functioning of the department. The students were also shown CIA projects done and the extra and co-curricular programs being offered. Each and every student was imbibed and were inspired by the Vision and Mission and the strategic plan of the department. They were also highlighted about the places they would do internships in such as USI, NIAS: IISC and were also told about options of either doing a dissertation or on to a twinning programme in the final year. Finally, a feedback was collected. Our department stood to be at one of the highest attendees that were 108. It concluded on a marvelous note that we were successful.
